Easy Fruit Gummies Recipe: Perfect for Pregnancy, Postpartum & Kids

These little gems are made with just two ingredients: fruit juice and grass-fed gelatin.

Recipe

You can vary the batch size, but I generally use the below ratio:

Base ingredients:

  • 1 cup fruit juice (or blitzed frozen/fresh fruit)

  • 2 tbsp gelatin

This quantity fills about 3 of my gummy moulds, but will vary based on size and number of moulds.

OPTIONAL ADD-INS:

They won’t be as sweet as your typical sugar-laden gummy sweets, so add a little honey, stevia or sweeter fruit juice if you don’t find them sweet enough.

instructions:

  1. In a small saucepan, add the fruit juice or frozen / fresh fruits if using these. These will then need to be blended until smooth. The gummies will have slightly more texture when using this compared to fruit juice.

  2. Simmer for around 5 minutes until piping hot, but don’t allow it to boil

  3. Add gelatin powder (I use a grass-fed organic gelatin powder from Ossa Organics)

  4. Whisk or use a stick blender to thoroughly mix through until it is all dissolved

  5. Portion into moulds

  6. Chill in the fridge until solid & remove from moulds

TIPS:

You can use any fruit really, but avoid pineapple, kiwi, papaya, mango, and guava as it impacts the setting of the gel.

Why Gelatin Gummies? Do they have any nutritional benefits?

1. Rich in Protein vs regular gummy sweets:

Gelatin is a great source of amino acids, supporting tissue repair, gut health, skin, hair, joints, and nails.

2. Why gelatin fruit gummies are particularly good for pregnancy and postpartum:

Gelatin is particularly rich in glycine (like collagen) — especially important during pregnancy and postpartum recovery when this amino acid becomes conditionally essential (meaning our need and intakes need to increase).

3. Gelatin vs Collagen:

Virtually the same nutritional composition as collagen, however gelatin can set into a gel (hence great for gummies). Check out the ultimate guide to collagen article for the full download here.

4. Great for Kids:

These gummies are a fun way to sneak in protein and gut-supporting nutrients into your little ones. My daughter loves making them with me and would probably eat them all in one if I let her! Plus when made with prune juice this can help give iron levels a little support, which is a common deficiency for young children.

5. Versatile and the combined benefits of different fruits & juices:

I sometimes use tart cherry juice which some research shows can aid sleep, or antioxidant rich berries & elderberry for a little immune kick, the ones in the photo are made with prune juice which is great for postpartum when constipation is common and it also a good source of iron, which most women need following birth. Great option for little kids too that often are low on iron or can have struggles with regular bowel movements.

6. Quick + Simple:

Make them with any fruit you love, They really easy to make with just two ingredients, so you can make a batch and store in the fridge for an easy grab-and-go snack.
